Adoption & Fostering

The Consortium has members with a special interest in working with children with disrupted attachments through fostering and adoption and children who have struggled with histories of trauma, abuse and neglect. Professionals within the group have extensive experience of assessing and working with individual children, sibling groups, families , carers and their networks to think about how best to support children to get the most from their new families.
Within the group we have expertise in providing assessments, advising on contact, helping children and families think about life stories, and helping children express their inner worlds through therapy and play work. We are also able to offer  developmental cognitive assessments of children .
We are aware of the need to work with adoptive parents and carers to support their role in managing and understanding their children. Within the group we have expertise in working with attachment including training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (Dan Hughes model) and systemic therapies. We are aware that at different stages in a family life cycle different issues may arise for the adopted or fostered child and their parents or carers.
We are able to provide a direct service responsive both to the needs of the children, their families and networks around them. We can be commissioned both by families independently and by social care and private fostering and adoption agencies.
